When To Start Teaching Your Baby (1)

When is it that I should start teaching my baby? That is a question that may come to mind for many first time parents; other parents may never consider the question at all, and just leave things to evolve naturally.

In a way, that is an unnecessary question as, whether you like it or not and whether you mean to or not, you begin teaching your baby while it is still in the womb, and then continue through its early years, teenage years, and even into adulthood. So, perhaps it is better to rephrase that question slightly to "when should I consciously start teaching my baby?"

Even with the rephrased question, the answer is the same: while the baby is in the womb. How can that be?

While the baby is in the womb it starts to learn about its environment after about six months of pregnancy, when it is capable of hearing external sounds. Of course, it is aware of its internal environment earlier than that, but there is little you can do to enhance that. But when it comes to the external environment, you are in a position to have some influence even from that early stage of development.

What Can You Teach Your Baby In The Womb?

With the baby in the womb there is clearly a very limited scope for teaching as such. However, you can provide additional stimulation that will form an important part of their learning at that stage. You can provide many hints as to what the outside environment is like, in a way that sets a good foundation for their feeling of love and security.

The main external awareness of a baby in the womb is sound. If you can make the external sounds comforting and welcoming then that will help the baby more than you may think. Music is a proven stimulation to babies, especially classical music; a daily dose of Mozart will stimulate the baby's brain and senses. With any luck, they will become a musical talent, but that is not an issue at this stage of their development.

You do not, of course, have to restrict her to classical music. Whatever music you like, just turn the volume up a bit more than usual to ensure she hears it. The sound will be muffled, but by the time baby is born, she will be used to your musical tastes.
Your aim should be to make the outside environment familiar to the baby. Most of that will happen naturally, and she will become used to the daily sounds, such as vacuum cleaner, liquidizer, lawnmower and other domestic noises that are penetrating.

Our baby daughter was born in the Philippines, where our usual form of transport is a tricycle. I do not think it a coincidence that, once she was born, she was contented with the noise of a tricycle; and they are noisy here, I assure you, especially outside the womb! However noisy the tricycle, she would always be asleep within a minute or two, and even now at 20 months is particularly relaxed on a deafening tricycle.

If you want to insist on having a most important sound in the womb, then it must be the voices of the parents. Getting to know the voice of mum and dad will come naturally, but dad especially can get up close and talk to the baby in the womb. It will not talk back of course, but you can rest assured, if she is awake, she will be intrigued by your up close and personal voice. It is something I did every evening with Saffron. That also had the effect of keeping her awake as long as possible during the evening, so she was less restless at night. That can be very helpful for mum to get a good night's sleep.

Another external stimulation which I never learnt about for my now grown up children, and that is light. This can be even more useful for keeping baby awake in the evening. If you take a powerful flashlight, switch it on, and hold it close to mum's tummy, the baby in the womb will respond to it. I must say I thought it a silly idea, until the then unborn Saffron started moving every time the light was switched on. So, the flashlight became another tool in the "keep baby awake in the evening" campaign to stop mum being kicked so much during the night.

Maybe Saffron did not appreciate my "keep her awake" tactics. She was probably wondering "who is this guy keeping me awake all the time; doesn't he realise I want to get some sleep?"

However, she does seem to have done well on it. She has slept like a log all night, every night apart from one, since she was just a few months' old. The odd night? Apparently, a bad dream at 11 pm. A quick cuddle and words of reassurance, and she was back to sleep again.

Whether that has any connection to her in-the-womb experiences, I cannot say for sure. But I will definitely be using the same tactics again next time, if we are blessed with a baby sister or brother for her.

First Birthday Invitation Sayings

Your child's first birthday is definitely a reason to celebrate and invite the whole world over to join you. For that you'll need birthday invitations, but even more important, you'll need some first birthday invitation sayings to put on them. Typically, the birthday invitation wording should be fun and playful, and perhaps matching an overall theme of the party. It's very common to see invitation wording for first birthday's to have a rhyming scheme or be in verse form. Here are some examples of some possible first birthday invitation verses:

"Our baby girl is turning one,
Come join us for a day of fun!"

Or,

"It's already time for his first birthday party,
Come celebrate with us and don't be tardy!"

You might consider including a theme. For example, if you want to have a princess themed party, you'll want to have the Royal Princess Party Invitations or the Little Princess Party Invitation. With wording to match, such as:

"Our little Princess requests your presence at a party in her honor,
To celebrate her first birthday.
Please join us at our castle on August 1st at 1PM."

Or if your little boy is having a dinosaur themed party, you'll want to have the Dinosaur Birthday Invitation with wording to match, such as:

"Saturday the 12th Alex turns one,
There's sure to be cake, ice cream and fun.
We can't wait to see you at our door,
You might even see a dinosaur!"

It's also recommended that you include a map with directions with the First Birthday Party Invitation, along with a contact phone number so that people can contact you in case they get lost. You can include this information in the body of the party invitation, such as:

"One candle on the cake,
On August 1st, don't be late!
Our baby's wish, he's turning one,
Is that you'll be there for all the fun!
Join us at 1234 West Park Street at 1PM
Please RSVP by July 25th
212-567-8910"

It can also be written on the back, separate from the birthday invitation wording, whatever your preference.

Some additional first birthday invitation saying suggestions:

"Fee, Fie, Foe, Fum,
Little Johnny's turning one!
His nursery rhyme party is almost here,
We hope we'll get to see you there!"

"Ice Cream, Cookies, Cake, oh my!
You're invited, so don't be shy!
A party for our little boy,
He's turning one, oh what a joy!"

Remember, you don't have to use rhymes.

"It's party time!
Join us for Ryan's 1st Birthday
Saturday 14th 2:00 - 4:00 pm
The Larken house
1603 "N" Street
Regrets only 707-234-5678"

First birthdays are fun so don't hesitate being creative and crafting a message that makes people smile. Or keep it simple, convey the facts and share the smiles during your little one's special day.

Baby Christening Ideas - Decorating Tips For a Perfect Day

When planning your baby's christening, at the top of your baby christening ideas "to do" list should be to decide how to decorate the church, hall or whatever venue you have chosen. Altar decorations are important as all eyes are on the family gathered there for the ceremony so a lovely floral arrangement or other suitable decorative items are a given. But, if you really want your celebration to be shine, the decoration of the pews, the entryways and windows are details that should be addressed.

By this time you may be mentally ticking over your available budget. The purpose of this article is to tell you that it's possible to decorate the entire sanctuary in a tasteful (and affordable) manner so that the entire area is made festive, not just the few square feet where the actual dedication will be performed.

I have a few baby christening ideas that are not expensive that can guide you in your efforts to decorate the church for your baby's dedication ceremony in an elegant and reverent manner without stressing your budget to the breaking point.

HALLS and ENTRYWAYS
Decorating the entry to the festivities gives the ceremony a sense of place and importance and we have some tips on how to get the job done without buying expensive items that you will never use again.

Landscape lanterns taken from your own home can be spaced along the sidewalks and decorated with bows for an inexpensive treatment. Borrow large potted plants from a friend to place on each side of the door and drape yards of pink or blue fabric on the handrails. For an informal gathering, arrangements of helium balloons are not out of the question.

LIGHTING
One of my favorite (and cheap) baby christening ideas is to have the baby's christening ceremony performed by candlelight. Candles at the altar and hurricane lanterns with burning candles along the aisles will provide just enough light and create an atmosphere that is amazingly spiritual and inspiring.

The only problem with this is that some churches frown on open flames used as decorations anywhere other than on the altar. The reason for this is not only that burning candles present a fire hazard; the melting wax from the candles has a nasty way of ruining carpets and the finish of antique wooden church pews.

To avoid paying for damages, perhaps the best option for subdued lighting would be to dim the lights using the dimmer switch if one exists or to use strings of twinkle lights creatively arranged along the aisles or in floral arrangements in which case you will need to know the location of electrical outlets.

HOW MANY PEWS SHOULD WE DECORATE?
The first order of business will be to ascertain how many pews will actually be filled. You can guess at this figure by the counting the number of RSVP's that have been received. If the number of loved ones and family that will be attending will only occupy a row or two, decorate those pews and use the rest of your budget to decorate the sidewalks and doorways leading into the church.

INEXPENSIVE PEW DECORATIONS
If your goal is to keep it simple, you can't go wrong with pink satin bows for a baby girl, baby blue for a boy or green or some other gender neutral color for fraternal twins. To save time you can have a florist tie the bows but position them yourself to avoid additional service charges. If you have the ability to design a professional looking bow, you will only be out the cost of the satin ribbon.

Dressing up the satin bows that you made for pews is easy to accomplish with pretty nosegays of flowers. For an informal gathering, you can attach some balloons filled with helium in your colors to the bows positioned at the ends of the church pews. I have seen balloon arches used rather than flowers to decorate the front of the church as well as the pews to take the ceremony in a lighthearted yet still respectful direction. The upside is that balloons are frivolous and fun and much less expensive than fresh flowers.

These are just a few baby christening ideas for decorating your venue in a unique yet inexpensive manner.

12 Most Creative Nursery Themes For a Boy, a Girl, Or Twins

There are many great reasons for creating a gender-neutral nursery for your new baby. Whether it is because you're waiting to find out your baby's gender, you want a theme that can suit whatever other children come along, you're having twins, or if you're just not into the "baby boy" or "baby girl" themes, here are some great ways to create fun nurseries that work perfectly for a boy, or a girl.

Stripes

Striped nurseries are very modern and can be suited with a great selection of colors to welcome a little boy or a little girl. Some great color themes include turquoise, brown and white; white, red, and taupe, or yellow, grey, and white.

Jungle

A jungle themed nursery is very fun to create. Think rainforest! Bright colors, trees, and exotic animals like toucans, monkeys, and tigers. Whether you buy pictures for the walls, or paint the animals directly onto the walls, it is sure to be quite the sight.

Black and White

Simple and stunning, black and white nurseries are very easy to create. Whether you use stripes, patchwork, or just a combination of black furniture and white furniture, your black and white nursery will be beautiful.

Teddy Bears

So classic, and traditional, a nursery filled with welcoming teddy bears is perfect for any baby. You can include teddy bear pictures, teddy bear blankets, and an array of bears that are small and large placed throughout the room.

Stars

Creating a star-themed nursery can be very versatile. Whether you choose to go for the modern-looking 3-D tin stars, classic yellow stars, or white stars, you can find star-shaped lighting, star-studded bedding, and great wall decorations to be sure your child will grow up...a star!

Patriotic

Whether you choose the true American red, white and blue, patriotic theme, or your native land's flag and colors, creating a patriotic-themed nursery allows your little one to grow up with a full sense of heritage and patriotism.

World

You could also do a slight variation of patriotic and go for a 'world traveler' theme, with décor such as maps, globes, and pictures of landmarks from throughout the world

Circles

Another fun variation of the classic stripes, circles are becoming a nursery hit. You may consider a circle crib, circle decorations, or colored circles painted on the wall, along with a bold circle area rug, this nursery variation is sure to be a hit.

Under the Sea

Another nursery that includes lots of bright colors! Create an underwater themed atmosphere in your nursery, and fill it with tropical fish, seaweed, starfish, and soothing ocean blue.

Artistic

Imagine a nursery complete with an easel, crayons, pallets, and great works of art. Whether it's modern bright-colored art, or Picassos and Monets, your artistic-themed nursery is sure to inspire an artistic little one.

Numbers

Inspire a little mathematician by creating a nursery full of numbers. Maybe include an abacus, numbers on the walls, and numbered bedding.

ABC's

A slight variation to the Numbers theme, an ABC theme is sure to inspire a new little writer. Complete with baby blocks, wooden letters painted on the walls, and famous literary works, you'll have lots of fun creating this nursery

Whatever theme you pick, your new baby's nursery is sure to be stunning and perfect for a little boy, a little girl, or twins for years to come!

Managing 4 Year Old Behavior

Being a parent is a fantastic experience, but it can also be very stressful at times. Managing a 4 year old's behavior can be even harder than dealing with the terrible twos.

The dream for a stressed out parent is to find a way to get their 4 year old to listen and behave the way they want. That's a tall order, but there are many tricks you can use to accomplish this. My specialty is teaching parents how to use language to get their kids to listen and do what is expected of them.

Here are 5 quick tips to help you improve deal with 4 year old behavior.

1) Always acknowledge what your child is saying. If you try to distract your child from whatever is on their mind without first acknowledging them, they will see right through you. But if you first repeat what they are saying, you'll "enter their world" and calm them down before any fights begin. So if your child is asking if he can have this great new toy while at the store, start by saying "you want this toy, don't you?".

2) When your child is acting in a way that you do not like, make sure you tell him or her what you DO want, rather than telling them what you don't want. In other words, speak in positive terms. "I want you to come over here" is better than "stop going over there". Or "keep your hands to yourself" is better than "stop hitting your little sister". This goes for pretty much anything you communicate to your child.

3) Stay calm when you discipline your child. If you show your anger and frustration, your 4 year old will know he or she has pushed your hot buttons. You'll have more success with discipline if you keep your cool. You can be unemotional when implementing punishment.

4) Never apologize when implementing punishment. If you stay unemotional and act with calmness, you simply follow up on a threatened punishment with a simple explanation of what your child did (after being asked to behave differently) and you explain that the punishment is because of the behavior/action. No apologies necessary here.

5) Feel comfortable following through. If you make a threat such as, "If you don't get over here right now I'm not taking you to Grandma's tomorrow", then you better be prepared to actually follow through. Therefore, maybe you need to consider what is a realistic punishment and what is not. Keep a short list of realistic punishments on the tip of your tongue, and make sure at least one of these can be used when you are not at home. Get your children in the habit of understanding that you are someone who acts, not just talks.

Raising Twins - Top 5 Survival Tips

Having twins is super exciting! The excitement fades very quickly however after the sleepless nights, crying (oh the crying), fighting with your spouse, and never being able to meet all the demands on you. The following 5 tips should help make raising twins a little less crazy.

Tip One: Get help! Don't be a martyr - you'll suffer and so will your twins. Friends, family, mother-in-law, neighborhood kids, mother's helpers, nanny - whoever you can get - line them all up to help you. Of course, everyone will want to see the babies and help with the babies. They can - for a minute - but then put them to work making meals, doing laundry (oh the laundry), and cleaning the house. This will allow you the time to bond with and enjoy your twins.

Tip Two: Do not turn on the TV.  This may sound like a strange tip - it's not. The reality is that watching TV will waste away your precious time, keep you up late, and throw the twins' schedules off. You'll sit there exhausted right through the commercials and wait until another dumb show is over. Before you know it, it's 11:00PM, you're exhausted and ready for bed, but guess what - it's feeding time! Instead, watch videos. With videos, you have control. You can pause and start again without the fear of missing something. Watch short comedies that last only 1/2 an hour. Laughter is key during the first year, otherwise you'll go nuts. "Whose Line is it Anyway" clips are fantastic for this, but watch whatever makes you laugh.

Tip Three: Domestic chores - Delegate! Get your groceries delivered, or have someone else do the shopping. You want to hand off as many domestic responsibilities as you can so you can spend time with your twins. If it's in the budget, hire a maid service to come in and clean the house. This takes a huge load off you. If money's tight, you can always do it once per month, or every other month. It's just nice to have someone else clean the toilets and dig out the ground-in Cheerios from the carpets.

Tip Four: Take time for you. Get out of the house. Get a massage. Take a bath. Take naps. See friends. You'll need to schedule this time - it won't come naturally as your job is never done for the day - or night! Work with your spouse to coordinate "time-off" and take advantage of any help you can get to take the breaks you'll need.

Tip Five: Routine. You can't wing this. Develop routines and patterns. Get up, feed them, get dressed, feed them, change them, feed them, nap them, feed them - you get the idea. They'll adapt quickly to routines and your days will become smoother.

As a side note, there WILL be times when you don't think you can go on - this is normal. There WILL be times when you want to run screaming bloody murder - this is normal. You can and WILL get through this.

Potty Training Twins - A Simple How to Guide

Potty training one child is one tough hurdle, but if you have twins you have to work doubly hard for the same results.

It may seem like a daunting task, but if you're armed with the right techniques and methods, potty training twins will be a minor roadblock to overcome.

You should bear in mind that even if they are twins, that does not automatically mean that they will learn everything at the same time and even in the same way. Their physical attributes might be alike, but the level of their learning skills might not. One child might show some signs of readiness while the other exhibits signs of resistance.

How do you deal with this kind of situation?
Do you wait for both of them to show signs of being ready?
Or, is it better if you toilet train them individually?

Here are some quick tips on how to handle twins separately or individually. As you know your children best, you need to make that decision on your own.

1. If you decide to train them separately.
If one twin is ahead of the other in regards to potty readiness, it is important to let your husband or mother take care of one child while you are training the other. It is imperative that you have someone to assist you because you don't want the one child to distract / dilute the attention to the other.

It's important not to praise one sibling at the expense of the other. It will create unnecessary jealousy and sibling rivalry. If you want to praise one sibling, do it when the other is out of earshot. Or, if you want to give one sibling rewards for a job well done, make sure that the other would not see it to avoid conflict between them.

If the praised sibling starts to brag about the rewards to other, explain to the latter the purpose of the rewards and how he will get the same rewards if he's ready to be potty trained. This might encourage even motivate him to start earlier.

2. If you choose to train your twins together.
This is more difficult than toilet training them individually, but logically, it saves you time.

Important: Do not train them if one is not ready. This would create potential problems, because the less prepared sibling's resistance might influence the more prepared one.

Otherwise, proceed same as number 1, avoid creating a competitive atmosphere between the two. And as a rule of thumb, it is not advisable to give material rewards such as sweets or toys when you're training twins at the same time. The reason behind that the one who didn't get any toys or sweets will feel rejected or unwanted by you, which could lead to squabbles and fights.

As much as it is fun for the twins to do things together, take them to the potty separately. This would help them feel more independent without feeling held back by the other twin. In addition, taking them to the potty individually will help you track each sibling's progress separately.

It is advisable if you ask your husband or your mom to help you out. They know you better so it's easier to see if you're on the same page with them. Take time to discuss with them what other suggestions they might have in order to speed up the potty training process.

Even if it takes you twice as long, potty training multiples is not as hard as it seems if you take enough time to prepare. Do not be discouraged if one twin shows great progress while the other regresses.

As you will know by now, your twins might share the same DNAs, but their personalities could be as different as night and day. Treat them as two different individuals. This would help you keep track on what specific techniques to apply to each twin.

Sanskrit Baby Names

The Sanskrit baby names are fast becoming the favorite choice for many parents. It is probably due to the distinct romantic meaning, unique sound, and magical connotation of the baby names. Also, the Hindu religion and Yoga are increasing in popularity.

Sanskrit is an Indo-European language which is the basis for many languages in India. The language is one of the 23 official languages of India. Sanskrit can be seen in ancient literature which includes poetry, drama, religious texts, science, and philosophy. The hymns and mantras wildly use Sanskrit as well.

The yoga masters see the importance to teach yoga poses with the respective Sanskrit names. Teaching the language, they stir the curiosity, inspiration, and interest in yoga. For thousands of years, the Sanskrit was an oral language. It is evident in the spiritual chants and mantras of yoga.

The Sanskrit or Indian baby names convey nature, feelings, and love. For example, Muskan means smile, Khoobsoorat means beautiful, and Khushoo means beautiful smell.

The Hindu baby names have the tendency to be Sanskrit. For example, Krishna (black or dark), Ajit (Invincible), Shiva (benign, kind, or auspicious), and Indra (possessing drops of rain) are Hindu male baby names. Laksmi (sign or mark), and Sita (furrow) are Hindu female baby names.

Krishna, Shiva, and Indra are the names of Hindu gods. Krishna is a Hindu god who is incarnated from god Vishnu. And, Shiva who is the husband of the mother goddess of Parvati is the Hindu god of destruction and restoration. Finally, Indra is a Hindu warrior god of the sky and rain.

Laksmi and Sita are the names of Hindu goddesses. Laksmi is a Hindu goddess of prosperity, good luck, and beauty, while Sita is the Hindu goddess of harvests.

The Sikh baby names have the tendency lean to be Sanskrit too. The name is divided into first and second part. The first part contains har, bal, and man, while the second part contains inder, deep, and pal. For example, Harinder (Hindu god Hari and Hindu god Indra), and Mandeep (lamp of the mind) are Sikh baby names.

A Checklist For Your Family Vacation Or Short Trip

A family vacation can be a hassle free trip provided you have all the gear you need. To avoid leaving behind things that are really important, begin creating a checklist a couple of weeks before your flight, and add things to them over the days. If you sit down to make a list a couple of days before the trip, you're likely to forget something that strikes you later - when you're on the plane!

If you have a baby, your bag should contain the following items:

Lots of diapers

A changing pad

Diaper rash cream

Stroller

Front pack or backpack

Feeding bottles

A feeding bowl with lid and spoon

Sterilizer

Bibs - lots of them

Baby wipes

Pacifiers

Baby toys

Tins of formula

Bottled water

If you have a toddler, don't forget to take along:

Lots of clothes if you don't intend to do laundry. If you want to take a limited number of clothes and do a few wash cycles during your trip, leave behind jeans and other clothes that take forever to dry. Light fabrics that dry in a few hours are ideal. For boys, pants that can be unzipped to create shorts are good for separate looks with the same clothes. Take along two or three sets of swimwear if you're heading to a warm climate, and lots of jackets and vests for colder climes.

If you have a stash of old clothes that you want to get rid of, take them along on your trip, and throw them after they've been worn a couple of times. It'll cut down your luggage dramatically.

General

No matter how many of you are on the trip and how many kids are going along, you'll absolutely need

A first aid box with essential medication, bandages, gauze, anti allergen medication and other must haves

Trash bags for wet clothes.

Camera

Zip lock bags to store little things like your daughter's accessories and hair pins.

As far as possible, try to compartmentalize your possessions into separate zip lock bags. It makes finding everything in a hurry a lot easier if you just have to glance at a few bags, see their content and find what it is you're looking for instead of rummaging through clothes and more clothes to find a safety pin.

Baby Crying in Sleep? The Reasons Why Your Baby is Crying in Their Sleep

Are you up all night long because you have a baby crying in sleep? Are you completely confused at why this is happening? This article well reveal some of the various reasons why you have a baby crying in sleep so that both you and your baby can rest easy at night.

So why would a baby cry in their sleep anyway?

It is actually quite common for a baby to laugh, cry, giggle, talk, babble, mumble, scream, etc. in their sleep. There are a variety of reasons why you have a baby crying in sleep. To understand the reasons, it is important to know a bit about the way a baby functions at a physiological level. Since birth, a baby is in a constant state of growth. Also, it is a fact that the younger a child is, the faster the rate is at which they grow. With all of the various changes and growing occurring in a baby's body, it is completely normal to have a baby that is crying in sleep.

When you have a baby crying in sleep night after night, it is most likely because of the reasons of growth as stated above. What to Expect After the First Month With Your Baby

So today I have been with my baby for one month and it has been a crazy and hectic month. I am more tired than usual and I think that within the entire month I have probably slept maybe about 2 hours a day and that unfortunately includes weekends too. But it all happens the way its supposed to and I am always happy when I see my child and even though she is sleeping most of the time except for the times when she is keeping me up everything is great.

The other day she finally started trying to lift her head when we had her down on her stomach. It was amazing because it might be the first time she has tried to lift her head to see what's going on around her and it shows that we are nurturing her and that she is developing at a rate that she is supposed to be. She doesn't really like to be on her stomach too often but we usually try to see if she will go for it and when we put her down she tried to lift her head. It was an amazing thing to see.

She also seems to be responding to voices and sounds in general. I would stand behind her and call her name and she would respond by moving around and I can see that she is trying to figure out where that voice is coming from. I don't think she knows who is making that noise or for what reason but she hears something and she tries to search it out and find it. It's quite an amazing thing to see your child develop from someone who didn't have any of these abilities to a child who is actively developing and becoming someone she is meant to be.

Another of these little events that happened to me the other day was actually occurring as I was trying to feed her. I was feeding her and her head was resting on my arm in a way that she could see my face. She stopped eating and just sat there and stared at me. I was wondering if she was ok or just not hungry but then I realized that she was looking at me and she was meaning to do it. It wasn't a sign that she wasn't hungry anymore but she was actually studying me. It was intense and gave me such a thrill to see my child actually recognizing me.

This first month with my baby have been such a blessing and such a torture from lack of sleep but as I see her grow no matter what it is always worth it.

Why Twin Prams Are A Great Choice If You Have Twins

If you're lucky enough to have twins you can have twice the joy however along with two babies comes double the responsibility and double the cost. More often than not, it can be extraordinarily overwhelming, especially for first time parents. Thankfully, there is now a broad variety of newborn equipment that you can use to make life a lot easier.

A twin pram is an important piece of baby equipment for multiple births. Twin prams are intended to make life easier for mothers who need to perform a variety of different tasks. There are many different types of twin prams that you will be able to find in your local baby store and online. The most common type for twins is the twin stroller. Strollers are a type of pushchair that is used from birth. They can be reclined to a flat position for newborn babies to allow them to sleep more comfortably, or placed in a slight incline position as they become older to help them sit upright and get to see the world.

Standard strollers available are only meant for a single baby to use. However with greater numbers of families than ever experiencing multiple births, twin prams are becoming much more widely available. Also called double pushchairs or twin pushchairs, this type of stroller is pretty much exactly like the regular strollers that you can find for single babies. However the main difference is that instead of just having a single seat, two seats sit side-by-side so you can push it around easily.

Twin strollers are a must for parents who have experienced a multiple birth for a wide variety of reasons. First, twin strollers are not as wide as other multiple prams that are available to buy. This means you don't have to be concerned about the twin stroller being a problem when you walk through crowded shopping malls or busy pavements. Another benefit with twin prams is it gives both parents an equal chance to bond with their children. Moms can feel their partners really share the weight of responsibility that comes with having more children at once.

Finally, the twin prams are much easier to push around when compared to strollers designed for carrying triplets or quadruplets. The more babies in the stroller, the heavier it gets and the more challenging it is to maneuver around when you go are out doing your chores or errands, or go with your partner and your family on vacation.

Graco Baby Brand Strollers Are the Way to Go

Any person who has ever been out shopping for baby shower gifts or baby travel accessories will have discovered that there are a multitude of products on the market that carry the Graco Baby brand name. Graco Inc. has a long history in the baby product market and they have developed a very good reputation for making products that are not only of high quality, but also affordable.

The Graco line of baby car seats, as well as the Graco strollers, are probably the best known and most popular of all their products. Because safety is of such great concern when it comes to anything related to babies, and especially when it comes to car seats and baby strollers, it is comforting for parents to know that Graco products are highly rated, with regard to safety standards and overall quality and durability.

There is a great selection of Graco baby vehicle seat models that a new parent can select from. Some models are very lightweight and easy to move from one vehicle to another and are great for use with toddlers. These can often even be used later as a booster seat when the toddler has outgrown the baby seat, yet isn't big enough to ride without some type of car seat.

There are also several baby car seat models made by Graco that are designed especially for newborns and infants. They provide the maximum amount of support and comfort to the baby while also offering all the safety and security for the child that a parent could ever hope for. Some models have adjustments that allow the car seat to be used as the child grows into the toddler stage. Of course, the more adjustable and adaptable the model is the more you can expect to pay for it.

While some people think that they might as well buy a baby car seat that can be used from the time a child is newborn all the way though the toddler stage and even beyond, for many new parents the cost is just prohibitive to do that. Fortunately, Graco provides lots of options to parents so that they can find just the right thing that fits into their budget.

Sometimes, it just makes sense to purchase the lower priced item even when you know in six months to a year you will have to buy something else to accommodate the child as they continue to grow. While this often is the least expensive approach, sometimes it is the only way to fit the necessary baby travel gear into the budget at that stage. With all of the models of Graco strollers, baby car seats, and other baby products, the parents always have a choice no matter what stage of development their child is in and what type of baby travel accessories they need at the time.

One very popular Graco baby product is the Graco Duo Glider baby stroller. It is able to handle either twins, or a newborn and a sibling who is still in diapers.

This Graco stroller has a large storage bin for carrying the necessities that are needed, and it has a tray for each seat as well as cup holder. In addition, the rear seat is slightly higher, giving the child in the back a view of where the family is headed.

The Ground Breaking Mountain Buggy Duet

The pioneering Mountain Buggy duet 2011 is a compact and adaptable buggy where the babies are positioned next to each other; nevertheless this duet is as slim as a customary single buggy with a width of 63 centimeters makes it the smallest side by side buggy in the market place and can easily be steered through a regular door opening.

The Duet has room for two travel systems or carrying cots making it perfect for twins that are newly born whilst accommodating two bassinets or car seats. The Mountain Buggy can easily be transformed to carry a pair of toddlers with the addition of two pushchair seats. The mountain Buggy is just as fitting for siblings of varying ages as the frame can accommodate a seat with both the bassinet and car seat.

Even though the light aluminum Mountain Buggy carcass is slight there has been no concession what so ever to the breadth of the seats or the durability of the buggy as each seat can tolerate 40 lbs. The stroller seat can be adjusted from a level lie back setting to a vertical sitting position and is simply executed with the twist and slide device. Both of the babies can be restrained by the comfy and modifiable five point safety harness and cushioned bumper rail that can be removed. The stroller also includes a useful cup holder that will house the infant's bottles.

The Mountain Buggy has hefty wheels that give it the capability to handle a seaside saunter, a jaunt in the snow or a ramble along a nature trek. The front wheels can be fixed or a revolving option. The swiveling selection will give better maneuverability in built up settings where there are a lot of people to steer around, the fixed wheels are more fitting for a wander along the promenade where there is a lot of open space with an even terrain. The height of the cushioned handle bar can be changed to go with their height of the parent so as they don't experience any discomfort when out walking. The buggy can be safely halted with the opportunely situated foot brake. Underneath the seat is a generous shopping basket to ferry the daily groceries home.

The little ones will be sheltered from the sun's perilous UV rays as the Mountain Buggy has individual sun canopies that have adaptable mesh sun visors. The canopy has a zipped opening giving easy reach of the infants. The mountain buggy is straight forward to fold down and will stand securely whilst collapsed and so will store neatly.

Both seats can be placed in a fully reclined position to accommodate most infant seats available. There is the option of of a second car seat attachment that is sold separately. The seats are comfy and a removable infant headrest features soft micro-fleece fabric. We have put some review information together for the Contours Options Tandem Stroller to help you along the way toward your next purchase.

Seats are able to recline fully for comfort
The infant car seat attachment attaches to most car seat brands on the market today. Moreover the infant car seat attachment is sold separately to accommodate twins (note that infant car seats are not included in the purchase)
Exceptional smooth ride and easy steering by two 8″ front single swivel wheels & 10″ rear "never flat" wheels which appear to be solid rubber wheels around a plastic inner rim

Pros & Cons

Even for a large stroller, turning and maneuverability are easy with a large wheels that are part of the design. Comments have been made that's smooth to moderate surfaces are not a problem navigating through. The overall design is very solid and very durable both the frame and the quality of material. the option to arrange the seats in different directions is a great option especially for having more than one child.

Being a double stroller as to the weight, some owners have commented that the stroller is bulky, but that is something to take into consideration for a double stroller. typically, owners can move past this one looking for room and comfort on various outings.Again, talking about size, folding the stroller for smaller car trunks major choir you to remove the backseat for tighter fits. This can be inconvenient for extra work while one child starts to scream and the other child decides to join in while you balance tackling getting the stroller inside your trunk.

Miscellaneous Information

We have found some more information regarding this product and you might find useful, such as: the only tool that you will need is a screwdriver.According to some manufacturer review comments, when trying to determine the product weight the stroller wieghs in at about 29 pounds without seats. With seats attached the stroller can weigh upwards to 31 pounds. however, some product specifications list the stroller at 48 pounds and a shipping weight of 52.8 pounds. From other reviews, it is probably better to expect 48 pounds.

Buying Gifts for the New Couple

Buying a gift for one person is hard enough, buying for a couple can seem close to impossible. It's hard to find something that both people will enjoy without buying two separate gifts. While there are several gifts that can pass as "couple worthy," they often lack that personal touch that you search for in a gift. Don't waste your entire day scrutinizing over gift after gift coming home with something less than perfect. Use these tips to find the perfect give the new couple will love!

Something They Can Enjoy Together

Think back to the times you've shared with the the couple and what they enjoyed doing. Sometimes couples are joined together by their mutual interest in something. Be it a sport, reading, a certain type of cuisine, or a hobby look for a gift that can encompass their mutual love for that particular interest.

Let Them Get Away

Every couple loves a weekend away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Gift certificates for weekend getaways are often a great way to give the couple a memorable gift that will remember for years to come. The best way to give them a get-away is by certificate. Try to resist the urge to book the actual date since their schedules may not coincide with your gift. You can also give them things like gas cards or other travel necessities that can help them have a stress free get-away.

Give Gifts for Entertaining

New couples often find them selves entertaining a few guests or hosting parties. Give them a gift they can really use by purchasing them entertaining necessities like grills, patio furniture, stem wear, dining sets, or other items that would be useful to the couple when having people over. Several gifts that are useful for entertaining can be costly so it may be feasible for you to give one of these gifts as a joint effort with other friends or family members.

Gift Baskets

Gift baskets are always a nice gift and can come in a variety of types, sizes, and prices. Popular gift basket ideas usually consist of fruits and confections, chocolates, desserts, or beverages. You can curtail a perfect basket filled with items the couple will love. Gift baskets offer an enjoyable array of foods or other items that are useful to the couple.

Make it Your Self

Are you a terrific cook? Master Carpenter? An Artist? If you have a talent then share it with the new couple to create a one of a kinda gift they will enjoy. These gifts can often be some of the most important memorable ones since they come straight from your heart. Worried about seeming cheap? Keep in mind that cooking exquisite meals, or painting and framing a piece of art isn't free so don't feel as if your not giving enough.

Capture Memories

If you've known the couple long enough o have a few photos and funny stories about the two, consider giving them a scrap book cataloging some memorable times in their relationship. Life goes by so fast there is rarely time to sit down and piece together your own photo album. Taking time to do this for the couple will give them a gift that is unique and one they may never have had time to make on their own.

Prams for Kids

Baby prams also called buggies, prams, baby carriages, pushchairs and strollers, are the most convenient way to take a baby wherever you go. They eliminate the hassles or dangers associated with carrying a baby in arms. Many innovative and convenient models, that are sturdy and durable, have come up in the market. The baby can be transported by just pushing the pram around, like a pushcart! Prams which are compact and lightweight are the most ideal.

While shopping for a pram, make sure it meets your requirements and is suitable for the kind of terrain you will be pushing it on. In case of multiple babies, it is best to go for multiple seated prams. Many prams provide multiple seats for twins, triplets, and even quadruplets! Some pram seats have the convenience of being able to fit a baby car seat. That way, it becomes easier to transfer a baby directly from the car to the pram, without lifting it out of the seat. Jogging strollers are available for those wishing to carry their babies with them while going out for an exercise. These are sturdy, more durable and can be pushed on rough terrain. Baby prams can easily be adjusted to suit particular needs, and can be converted to baby slings and mats. Pram shelters are available separately, to provide security from extreme conditions, or for protection when left unattended.

Each type of pram is engineered for particular needs, in order to provide easy handling and maneuvering with the baby inside. Jogging strollers have tires filled with air for a smooth ride and ease of use on all terrains. Buggies and umbrella prams are very light and compact to enable easy handling in narrow places and lanes, and are especially suitable in supermarkets. They are also provided with rain hoods. The all-terrain strollers with three wheels are the most comfortable and have an attractive design. They are the most expensive of all, and can be used on any kind of terrain.

Simple standard strollers are available for those who just want a handy carrier for their baby and not for a specific purpose. The Hybrid 2-in-1 baby cots that double up as a pram are also a good choice and are very durable. Some prams also provide the option of rocking the baby to sleep, while it is still in the pram. The hoods come in a variety of material, and some provide protection from harmful UV radiation.

The History of the Baby Stroller

The first kind of stroller to emerge was the pram or baby carriage. It was developed in 1733 by William Kent. It was big actually so big that it had to be dragged by a small pony or goat. They were too expensive for normal people of that time and only wealthy people could afford to get a pram.

In the 1830s Benjamin Potter Crandall started to sell the first baby carriages in America and they quickly became popular amongst people who could afford them. They were hand built from heavy wood and brass which made them very beautiful but also fairly expensive.

In the beginning of the 20 century the baby carriage became more available to the general population. They were now produced in factories and built from modern materials. This made them cheap and affordable for normal families.

With newer designs and educated engineers supervising the production and design, the baby carriages became safe, lighter and easier to use. Such things we take for granted today like brakes and big wheels were now added to the baby carriages.

It was in 1965 the first real stroller appeared on the market. It was Owen Maclaren who after receiving complaints from his daughter about the heavy baby carriage, he developed the umbrella stroller. By using an aluminum frame he could keep the weight down but still make a durable stroller.

Today we rarely see any baby carriages. They are too heavy and cumbersome. Instead the modern stroller has taken over, with the ability to recline the seat it can function as a baby carriage when the child is young and be turned into stroller as the child gets older and bigger.

There are many different models of strollers available today. Travel systems, jogging strollers and double strollers just to name a few. For new parents this often seems overwhelming but to know what one's own needs are, choosing a stroller shouldn't be difficult.

The travel system combines the baby carriage and the stroller. The seat is removable and can be switched out with a bassinet to transform the stroller into a baby carriage. The seat can often also be exchanged with a car seat allowing the baby to be moved from the car to the stroller without disturbing it too much.

The jogging stroller is a more modern model. It is a light stroller with big wheels. It is as the name implies designed for jogging or running. Its big wheels make the stroller stable and easy to push over more difficult terrain. It has become more popular amongst most people for its light weight and maneuverability.

The double stroller is another popular stroller for families with multiple children. It works great for those with twins and children of different ages. Being able to have two kids in the same stroller makes life easier for parents compared to having two strollers to push.

Strollers are overall a great invention giving parents some relief from carrying around the babies all the time. On the other hand carrying one's child brings more physical closeness and comfort to the baby, so don't forget to hold your child close to you from time to time.

How to Increase Your Chances of Having Twins

Mothers do not have the choice when they are going to have a single or multiple pregnancies. However, there is a way to increase the chances of having one. Most people consider having a baby is a joy in the lives of the couple but much more so when they are having twins or multiples. There are some ways to be considered to increase the odds of having twins. Here are some tips to follow if you want to conceive twins the natural way:

1. Observe your body processes. Monitor the female cycle of reproduction so that you will know the proper time for sexual intercourse. This increases the awareness of having sex when the woman is fertile increasing the chance of conceiving a baby or twins.

2. Study your family history. A mother who has a family history of having fraternal twins is most likely to conceive twins on her own.

3. Take note of the foods to be eaten. Cassava is a type of root crop or yam that is found to increase ovulation. In a region in Africa, where cassava is a staple food, women have the highest rate of having had twins than anywhere in the world. Drinking milk and eating beef also increases the odds of conceiving twins. The natural properties of milk are thought to stimulate the ovaries and encourage the production of multiple eggs for conception. However, eating a lot of healthy foods for optimum nutrition thereby increases the chances of the twins to reach full term. A good supply of nutrients is what the body needs to conceive and nourish multiple babies.

4. Take supplements like folic acid. Folic acid taken at least one month before conception has been shown to increase the likelihood of having twins. Folic acid is taken on a daily dose since this is important for any healthy pregnancy for the absorption of Iron needed to form hemoglobin, a component of red blood cells.

5. Breastfeed your infant. Fertile women who are breastfeeding increase their chances of producing twins so for nursing mothers who want to have twins, continue to nurse your infant or toddler through breastfeeding.

6. Gain weight. Women with higher fat percentages or those who are a little overweight are more likely to have twins.

7. Plan and try to conceive twins when you are in your 30s or early 40s. Women who are already in these age bracket are the ones more likely to have twins.

Picking the Best Twin Strollers Or Best Double Strollers

Let's face it, picking the best twin stroller is one of the biggest gear decisions a twin mommy must make. A tandem twin stroller is designed with one seat in front of the other, and these are handy when you are navigating narrow areas. A double stroller may seem a little bit big for a couple with a new baby, although a double stroller is as well the wonderful gift for parents with a young child and a new baby. If you have twins, or two children who are both of stroller age, a twin baby stroller will be a godsend whenever you want to travel to the mall or the park.

Tandems may also be heavier to push and navigate because of their length. A twin stroller can have dual reclining seats, making them suitable for newborns to older children. Tandem pushchairs offer the classic side-by-side design as well as the more recent front-to-back arrangement. Various wheel positions incorporated in the makes have enhanced the way you may manoeuvre them. Tandem pushchairs can use the old side by side layout or the innovative front and back seats. You can get around more easily thanks to innovative wheel placement features.

Again, different mothers will prefer different settings and styles, be sure to really test as many as you can before parting with more money. Again, this style reduces the width of your twin pushchair, which makes it much easier to get around, but it does increase the length of the pushchair. Most people would agree that this is much easier to get around with than a double width buggy, so the additional length isn't really an issue.

Parent reviews of lower quality models abound with complaints about limited durability and breaking parts. Many parents expressed how they wished they had paid more money to purchase a better quality stroller in the first place, especially since double and twin strollers take the extra burden of single strollers.

A twin stroller has a lot of practical characteristics. A very good stroller should be made with good-looking, durable materials that are comfortable for kids. A very good double stroller will come with a harness that keeps save the kids from any jolt along the way. Some other aspects will make life for the parents even easier when using the stroller.

How to Stop Breastfeeding Quickly

"Congratulations, you have the job. We would like for you to start work a week from Monday." Receiving such a telephone call is music to the ears of anyone searching for a job. For a mother nursing an infant or toddler, being the recipient of such news would likely be equally welcomed. But, now she has to find a way of stopping her baby from nursing. Simply put she has to find a way to stop breastfeeding quickly.

Part of motherhood is finding solutions to problems such as this. Mothers have a number of options such as obtaining a breast pump. In using a pump, a mother can fill milk bottles with her milk each night before work, and have ready for the next day. By doing this, she could insure her baby has access to her breast milk, filled with nutrition, while she is at work.

This is one way to stop breastfeeding her baby, but continue to meet the nutritional needs. By pumping her breast the night before, or the next morning, she has preserved a part of herself for her baby. She may also lessen the pain of sore nipples, which becomes very important if she is nursing twins.

If a nursing mother has been using the herbal supplement "fenugreek", she will likely have increased her milk production. This is often done when nursing twins, or an infant and a toddler during the same period. An increase in milk production satisfies both hungry little stomachs. The increased milk production becomes a problem that lingers on for a while, when nursing is quickly terminated.

Weight gain and loss are an issue for mothers. Pounds gained during pregnancy tend to resist removal when they are no longer needed. These pounds can increase when mothers us herbs or prescriptions to increase their natural milk supply. This increase in supply also brings an increase in breast size.

In the example used, taking a new job and needing to suddenly alter the feeding habits of an infant or child could force the mother into action. She would not only pump her breast to supply the milk for her child, but to remove the discomfort of filled breast. Therefore, if a drastic change is expected, gradually ending stimulation may not be a bad idea.

In the past, most mothers were home with their children and few changes were necessary beyond normal care for their families. The mother's breast was the primary source of food for the newborn, and cow's or goat's milk to the toddler. Milk did not come from factories.

In today's hustle and hassle world, change and changes come quickly. These may not be to the liking of mother or child, but are essential to maintaining a certain lifestyle. In an age of instant everything, the bond between mother and child remains solid, if the mother has the opportunity to continue breastfeeding.

Millions of mothers have faced and met the challenge of having to stop breastfeeding quickly. Accepting and making accommodations for the discomforts and inconveniences of such a requirement is no small matter. Regardless of the reason to make a quick change, if done smoothly, and lovingly, end results are usually desired.

Diaper Pricing Pitfalls - How Do I Know If I Have a Good Deal?

Diapers are confusing. They come in almost uncountable varieties, brands, styles and more. Most brands have at least two or three different types of disposable diapers - for example, Pampers has Cruisers, Baby Dry, Swaddlers and Sensitive. After you weed through the type, you buy a package of diapers, including; convenience packs, economy packs, jumbo packs, bulk packs, jumbo box, value box, economy box... What is worse is that many places who sell diapers will actually sell up to 10 to 15 different package styles of the same style of diaper. An example of this is Diapers.com sells 11 different packages (not sizes, packages) of Pampers, Size 3 diapers, of which there are 6 different options of purchasing Pampers Cruisers. Now the purpose of an online store is to give the customer variety, but grocery stores are not much better. A recent trip to Target gave the author the option of purchasing 16 different types of Pampers, of which there were six different package quantities of Pampers Cruisers.

So, how do you make sense out of all this? Well, generally, it is true that the largest package is the best deal. Back to Diapers.com and their Cruisers, the largest package ranges in price per diaper of $0.2687 for size three to $0.4299 for size 6. However, buying just a slightly smaller quantity only increases your price per diaper by $0.0170 (size 3) to $0.0048 (size 6). In essence, there is almost no difference in prices, except that, based on average diapers used in a specific stage, the price savings from size 3 to size 6 will save you $145 over the time your child is in diapers.

Why would you buy a pack for $3 less when you can get more? The answer is simple, and that is in the risk of having unused diapers. For example, assuming again specific averages of time spent in a specific size, buying the package that has more diapers will create 308 unused diapers, while the smaller package will only leave you with 112 unused diapers. Meaning, if you buy the bigger package, you will spend $100.37 on diapers that would not go to use, versus only $39.30. However, this means that you are buying two extra packages of the largest size, and one full extra package of the smaller size.

So, is the answer to buy smaller packages? Smaller packages do not offer better pricing, although, some pricing is decent, especially if you are not able to spend $45 a pop for the biggest packages. In fact, when looking at packages priced at $34.99, the price per diaper was only $0.3016 to $0.4860 for size 3 and size 6 respectively. This means there is only a per diaper price difference of $0.06 to $0.08. This does add up though, and from the cheapest price to this one means that overall, you would spend an extra $286 on diapers. However, when looking at two other packages, one sells for $16.99 and another for $24.99, this skews the pricing. Both offer near identical pricing, except for a key difference, the package sold for $16.99 in sizes 4,5,6 is actually cheaper, by roughly $0.02 to $0.03 per diaper. The $16.99 packages offer a better deal than the more expensive package, except for size 3, which is only $0.005 per diaper higher. However, buying either of these two packages routinely will still cost $487 more than buying the cheapest diapers.

Finally, the worst offender is the "convenience" package. Even on diapers.com, where the site is supposed to offer some of the best prices on diapers - which it does for the most part - will ultimately break your budget. At $11.29 per package, this only saves you roughly $5.00 per package over the $16.99 pack, but, and this is a huge but, the price per diaper increases dramatically $.10 to $.14 per diaper more than the cheapest package. This creates an overall extra cost of $786 (based on average diaper use).

The final way to compare diapers is to look at the package that is the best deal and then figure out what the savings are versus the cheaper package. For example, the best deal (in size 3) is $42.99 for 160 diapers. Compare this to the packages at $24.49, $34.99 and $11.29 that have 76, 116 and 31 diapers respectively. This means, that when you buy any of the following, you are actually spending $9.29, $5.28 and $15.30 less buying the biggest package over the convenience packages.

Keep in mind that the previous discussion only concerns diapers from one size, at one store, and that store is a discount store that prides itself on offering the best prices. When buying diapers at a local store, the pricing changes dramatically.

The database used shows [1] that there are substantial price differences in diapers. The average lowest cost per diaper is $0.22, and the highest average cost is $.51. Therefore, this means you would spend over $2,025.88 extra on diapers. If you have twins, triplets or quads, you might as well multiply this by that number, which is a decent used car, or a down payment on a new house. To demonstrate the difference in product prices, a comparison of the price difference by brand, type, size and the lowest and highest prices. The price differences range from a mere $0.04 per diaper to $0.37 per diaper. This means that again, based on that 7,000 figure, there is a potential of paying nearly $2,570 more for diapers. Even at $0.04 per diaper though, based on 7,000 diapers, you are spending $280 more on diapers. Of course, the average price difference in the database was $0.15 per diaper, or $1,057.75. The final thing to note is that the pricing database does not list sale prices, but only the regular prices. In addition, the database does not record "convenience" packages, or other items that are clearly a bad deal.

Lastly, buying diapers on sale or by using coupons can further decrease the cost per diaper by $0.05 to sometimes $0.10 or more. This adds up quickly, and can decrease your costs dramatically. Just saving $0.05 per diaper average, on the lowest prices (on average from the database), could mean paying only $910 for your baby's diapers. This is a stark contrast to the average highest price, which would mean you would pay (on average) $0.39 per diaper or $2,701.91.

[1]This compares only Huggies, Pampers and Luvs, and in the common sizes. In addition, the author removed" Warehouse" store packages, along with preemie and newborn sizes to illustrate an apples-to-apples comparison.

Twin Prams - Ten Frequently Asked Questions

Buying a twin buggy can be tricky. As you look at the many different twin prams/buggies on offer, you will probably need answers to at least some of the frequently asked questions addressed by this article.

1. What is the difference between twin prams, twin strollers, twin buggies and twin pushchairs?

The names have come to mean different things than they used to, and different terms are used depending on where you are. Here in the UK, the terms "twin pram", twin buggy" or "twin pushchair" are used more-or-less interchangeably, but the term "twin stroller" is less common. A "pram" used to be a wheeled baby bed, but the term is now used to describe more upright transport too. "Twin" is used for both of the two main types of twin pushchair: side-by-side and tandem (one child behind the other).

2. Should I buy a tandem or side-by-side twin buggy?

Several models of both types of twin pram are sold, with some parents preferring one type and some the other. The side-by-side models allow your children to communicate and interact with each other, but are much wider and can therefore be harder to get in and out of shops. On the other hand the tandem prams are narrower and easier to handle but do not allow your children to socialise with one another.

3. Where can you buy twin prams?

There are basically three types of retailer where you can buy twin prams. You can go down the traditional route and visit a department store; you can visit a specialist baby store (if you are lucky enough to have one nearby); or, and this is increasingly common, you can visit a specialist on-line shop where a wealth of information is available at the click of a mouse.

4. Are there any twin prams that take car seats of any brand?

On the whole, each manufacturer makes car seats to fit their own prams, although there are some exceptions. If you want something that really is universal and will carry any car seat, you want to look for a car seat carrier. This is basically a frame that will accept any car seat. Twin universal car seat carriers are rare, but the "Snap-N-Go Double 1305TW" by Baby Trend is one example.

5. Can a twin buggy be fitted with a buggy board at the back for a toddler to stand on?

Yes, some buggy boards fit some twin buggies. You need to be careful because compatibility is not universal. A combination that works is a "Cheeky Rascals" buggy board fitted to Graco twin prams.

6. Many twin prams have seat covers that don't come off. How can I clean them?

The best option is to fit a set of detachable seat covers, but if you cannot do this, first of all brush off any debris and major dirt, then dampen a cloth with mild soap and water and just wipe down until the seats are clean. Don't soak the seats and don't use any detergent that could act as an irritant.

7. Does anyone make a twin buggy that's suitable for jogging with?

Yes, there are several models of jogging stroller that are twin models, produced by manufacturers such as Schwinn and InStep. You will get quite a workout jogging with twins!

8. With some buggies, you can reverse the seats so your child is facing you. Can you do this with a twin pushchair?

Yes, you can buy twin prams where the seat configuration is totally flexible and you can have one or both children facing you. These models tend to be towards the higher end of the market and are therefore not the cheapest.

9. Can you buy a twin buggy that separates into two singles?

The best approach is actually to get two singles and buy a set of pushchair connectors. In the UK, "Prince Lionheart" is one brand of connector. Remember that two connected single pushchairs are wider than a twin "side-by-side" pushchair.

10. Can twin prams be gate-checked at the airport?

This is a difficult question to answer definitively because each airline has different rules and they keep changing. A friend of mine who worked as cabin crew for many years said that his airline allowed twin prams to be checked at the gate, but the best bet is to contact the airline before you book.

Jogging Stroller Travel System

If you are looking for a jogging stroller travel system, it is an efficient strolling system for parents who have children under the age of twenty two months old.  They are made for little babies that are too young to lift up their head.  Babies need support at such a young age and owning a travel system will benefit both the baby and mother.

Not all jogging strollers are capable of being a travel system, most of your strollers on the market for runners are catered to older children.  To retrieve your child in and out of the car can be risky, since babies are so fragile.  The design of a travel system is simple.  You can secure in place the base that gets strapped into the seat by the seat belt.  When you are ready  to put your child into the car its as easy as snapping your child carrier into the base.  When you are ready to pull them out all you have to do is unsnap it out of the base and re snap it into the stroller.  The in and out movement doesn't make the baby uncomfortable, the baby will stay in his comfort zone and will not wake up, they will be padded and secured in the seat belt that comes with the carrier. Using these strolling systems really makes it easy for the parents. The child as he grows will eventually be put in a regular car seat.

There are other alternatives to the carrier.  Now on the market there are bassinets that can be attached to a jogging stroller, but they are not as efficient as a travel system but they are sold as an accessory and will fit most jogging strollers.

Jogging strollers are made for running, but running with a newborn may not be the best method for strolling.  Since the child is prone to injury it is better to have the child walked,  initially at least for the first 22 months, then a time progresses and the child is strong enough to handle the road and you should be able to walk faster and even jog as the baby grows. Most jogging strollers are used as a walking stroller because of the smooth ride they offer. The large wheels really make a difference in the ride.

Buying a stroller is an investment, like buying a car they should be reliable, efficient and long lasting in return they will provide years of service. Jogging Stroller travel systems are well worth the money, because they will make the transition from car to the stroller very easy and will pose less risk for the baby.
